Pink Beach

Pantai Merah, or simply the pink beach on Komodo Island, is one of seven pink sand beaches across the world. Situated in the eastern part of Komodo Island, only a few people know about this beautiful beach. Thus, people also call it a hidden paradise.

What makes the sand appear pink under the sun are microscopic residents, organisms called Foraminifera. They produce a red pigment on the coral reefs and leave small red particles behind that blend with the white sand, forming a soft pink tint that glows beautifully and is visible from the shore, water, and viewpoints on the hills.

This picture-perfect scenery is widely appreciated by photographers who seek to capture and sustain its beauty in a memorable photo. Moreover, it’s a favorite spot for relaxation and tanning and for visitors wanting to take a moment to indulge in and admire the beauty of Mother Nature.

The beach is situated on an uninhabited island, which gives in to its an unspoiled location. The atmosphere at this beach is so serene and is a must-stop beach after trekking in Komodo Island. Indulge in the art of doing nothing on this beach as you bask in the panoramic views of turquoise seas, green rolling hills, blue skies, and fascinatingly pink sands. Jump into the turquoise water for a leisurely swim or snorkel deeper to enjoy the vibrant underwater gardens with a variety of corals and fish swimming calmly in the shallow waters surrounding the beach.

The world-famous Pink Beach is a must-see for any visitor to Komodo National Park. With soft, pink sand, crystal clear waves, and amazing diving spots, you will never forget your time here. Relax with a delicious lunch, snorkel along shallow ledges, and hike up the nearby hill for a great view looking over the beach. Take a moment to appreciate panoramic views of turquoise seas, green rolling hills, blue skies, and fascinating pink sands.

This pink beach is located directly on Komodo Island, the home of the famous Komodo dragons, although you’re not likely to see them walking around here since they mostly stay over the hills. There are also vantage points you can hike up to for even better views, and the warungs on this beach are shaded by trees, so they don’t interfere with the scenery too much.
